Project Location: Cebu
Vessel Type: Domestic Cargo Vessel
Date of Service: July 13, 2026
Scope: Supply, Installation, Testing, Commissioning, and Compliance Support
Sabas Electronics OPC carried out navigation, communication, safety, and bridge equipment works aboard a domestic cargo vessel, at Cebu.
The project involved the supply and installation of major bridge navigation equipment together with communication, fire detection, life-saving, and firefighting equipment required for the vessel's operational and compliance requirements.
The project included the following major equipment and systems:
7-inch color TFT LCD
600 W output power
50/200 kHz operating frequency
NMM40-50/200 bronze thru-hull transducer
X-Band marine radar
Up to 36 NM range
4 kW transmitter output
SYRSB-1004 antenna
Class A AIS
7-inch color LCD MKD
NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 interfaces
24 V DC power supply
Electronic Chart Display and Information System
24-inch display
Electronic chart navigation and route monitoring
Repair and overhaul
Inspection and servicing
Dockside adjustment
Compass swinging and adjustment at sea
Deviation table preparation/update
25 W output
Marine VHF 156–162 MHz
Speakers
Amplifier
Microphones
Cables and accessories
FDAS control panel
Detectors
Manual call points
Alarm devices
Cables and installation accessories
Marine GMDSS search and rescue transponder designed to assist rescue vessels in locating survivors or vessels in distress through radar detection.
Marine emergency position-indicating radio beacon designed to transmit distress alerts and provide AIS-based position identification to support faster search and rescue operations.
The vessel was also supplied with additional life-saving and firefighting equipment, including red hand flares, rocket parachute flares, orange smoke signals, EEBD, adult lifejackets, embarkation ladder, line throwing appliances, Fireman Suit Type II sets, PHZK-6/30 positive-pressure breathing apparatus, and fire blankets.
The vessel required the installation and preparation of multiple navigation, communication, fire detection, and safety systems as part of its operational and regulatory requirements.
Because several systems operate together on the bridge, the work required more than simply mounting individual equipment. Equipment positioning, electrical connections, antenna installation, sensor interfaces, cable routing, configuration, and functional testing had to be coordinated to produce an operational bridge system.
The project also included safety and compliance-related work, particularly magnetic compass adjustment, FDAS commissioning, radio equipment, AIS, emergency communication equipment, and life-saving appliances.
Sabas Electronics technicians carried out the onboard installation and integration work in Cebu.
The work included equipment mounting, cable laying and routing, electrical termination, antenna connections, sensor connections, configuration, and preparation of the installed equipment for operational testing.
For the FDAS, the work covered the installation and connection of the control panel, detectors, manual call points, alarm devices, cables, and associated accessories.
The Public Address system installation included mounting and connecting the speakers, amplifier, microphones, cables, and accessories before functional sound verification.
Particular attention was given to the bridge equipment arrangement so that the radar, ECDIS, AIS, echo sounder, VHF radio, and associated equipment could be operated effectively by the vessel's bridge personnel.
Sabas Electronics technicians carrying out equipment mounting, cabling, termination, and bridge equipment installation in Cebu.
Following installation, the equipment and systems were subjected to functional checks before commissioning.
Testing covered the operational functions applicable to the installed equipment, including:
Equipment power-up and basic operational checks
Cable and termination inspection
Radar operation
AIS operation and sensor/interface checks
Echo sounder operation
ECDIS operation
VHF radio communication checks
PA system sound verification
FDAS zone and alarm functional verification
Magnetic compass inspection and adjustment
Emergency communication and safety equipment inspection
Any adjustments identified during testing were addressed before final commissioning.
After installation and testing, the applicable systems were prepared for commissioning and turnover.
The commissioning process covered functional verification of the installed systems and confirmation that the equipment was ready for vessel operation within the agreed project scope.
For the FDAS, the contracted scope included system testing, commissioning, functional verification of all zones, and issuance of an installation and commissioning certificate.
For the magnetic compass, the contracted scope included dockside testing, fine-tuning, compass swinging at sea, deviation-table preparation or updating, and issuance of the applicable certificate.
Marine electronics installation is closely connected with vessel compliance. Equipment must not only be installed but must also be properly configured, tested, documented, and prepared for inspection where applicable.
The project scope therefore included compliance-related activities associated with the vessel's navigation, communication, fire detection, and safety equipment.
This included work involving the magnetic compass, AIS, VHF communication equipment, FDAS, EPIRB, Radar SART, distress signals, life-saving appliances, and firefighting equipment.
Where applicable, documentation, certificates, permits, and equipment records form part of preparing the vessel and its equipment for regulatory inspection and continued operation.
Performing installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning work aboard the vessel.
The project required technicians to work across several areas of the vessel.
Activities included:
Equipment mounting
Bridge equipment installation
Cable laying and routing
Cable termination
Antenna installation and connection
Equipment configuration
Sensor and interface connection
FDAS device installation
PA system installation
Electrical and functional checks
Magnetic compass adjustment
Dockside testing
System commissioning
Preparation for final turnover
Following completion of the agreed installation, testing, and commissioning activities, the completed works were prepared for customer inspection and turnover.
Final acceptance are supported by signed service reports, commissioning documents, certificates, and customer acceptance records for the project.
The project demonstrates the importance of treating marine electronics as an integrated vessel system rather than as individual pieces of equipment.
From radar, ECDIS, AIS, echo sounder, and VHF communications to fire detection and emergency safety equipment, each component must be properly installed, connected, tested, and commissioned before being placed into service.
The work performed in Cebu combined equipment supply with onboard technical services, testing, commissioning, and compliance support to prepare the vessel's navigation, communication, and safety systems for operational use.
